WELL: Pre-assessment testing
for indoor air quality

AIR QUALITY PLAN

WELL - Pre-assessment testing for indoor air quality

Under the Air category of the WELL performance standard, certain air quality standards are required to be met during performance verification. Air Quality Plan Ltd are often engaged by customers at the early stage of refurbishment projects, or later in the construction Cyle, in order understand the current air quality in relation to the parameters set out in the WELL standard. This allows them to benchmark the current air quality and identify modifications required to ensure they pass the performance verification process. In this way they can avoid costly performance verification failures and subsequent retesting.

What Do Pre Assessment Inspections Involve?

Typically there are 2 approaches to WELL pre-assessment testing for indoor air quality:

1 Replicating WELL testing requirements - This testing protocol is designed to identify if the site is ready for WELL testing, or if further remedial measures are required to ensure the site passes the WELL test. This is usually completed towards the end of the construction phase. Following this protocol our consultant will:

Perform an initial analysis to identify potential locations to test in the building and use the WELL protocol to identify how may tests would be required for the formal WELL test.

Work with you to agree the number and locations of tests to give the best chance of covering all eventualities of the formal WELL test

Attend site and perform testing in line with the WELL performance verification requirements

Prepare and issue a detailed post construction testing report that includes dates and results of each test

2 Pre-refurbishment testing - This testing protocol is designed to identify if the current ventilation system is providing satisfactory results with regards to the WELL standards and to determine if modifications are required to the existing ventilation system to achieve the required WELL standards. This testing is completed during the design phase for refurbishment projects to ensure ventilation specifications are able to achieve the required WELL standards. Following this protocol our consultant will:

Work with the client to identify locations to test in the building which may include; outside testes, tests downstream or initial filtration within air handing plant and testing within occupied areas.

Attend site and perform testing in line with the WELL performance verification requirements

Prepare and issue a detailed post construction testing report that includes dates and results of each test
