What Is WELL?

What is WELL? WELL is a performance-based system for measuring, certifying, and monitoring features of the built environment that impact human health and well-being, through air, water, nourishment, light, fitness, comfort and mind. In contrast with standards such as BREEAM and LEED, WELL is focused solely on peoples health and wellness as opposed to environmental impact and sustainability considerations.

What Do WELL Assessments Involve?

Projects are required to pursue a certain subset of features or strategies within the WELL concepts, including Air, Water, Thermal Comfort, Light, Movement, Nourishment, Sound, Mind, Community and Materials. In order to demonstrate compliance with program requirements, projects must submit documentation, which is evaluated and tested by a third party.

Projects must also successfully pass performance verification to confirm adherence to WELL requirements and earn certification. Performance verification is typically completed by 3rd party.

Where do Air Quality Plan fit into this?

Under the Air category of the WELL performance standard, certain air quality standards are required to be met during performance verification. Air Quality Plan Ltd are often engaged by customers at the early stage of refurbishment projects, or later in the construction Cyle, in order understand the current air quality in relation to the parameters set out in the WELL standard. This allows them to benchmark the current air quality and identify modifications required to ensure they pass the performance verification process. In this way they can avoid costly performance verification failures and subsequent retesting.
